Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili held a meeting with Jihad Azour, the Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund. The main topics of conversation included ongoing reforms in Georgia, macroeconomic indicators of the country as well as the new programme of the International Monetary Fund.
The head of the Government accentuated the importance of the financial and technical support provided by the IMF. Respective support aims at fostering fast economic growth and social development of the country.
Particular attention was paid to Georgia's economic policy, its fiscal and structural reforms. Leading positions of Georgia in the international ratings were highlighted as well.
The Prime Minister discussed the process of implementation Government's Four-Point Reform Plan in a detailed manner. Said plan includes the following pillars: economic reforms, education system reforms, spatial development of the country as well as Georgia's governance system reforms. Giorgi Kvirikashvili welcomed the fact that the new programme of the IMF concentrates on the areas that are prioritized by the Government of Georgia, as well as on fostering the sustainable economic development.
Particular attention was paid to the reforms directed at the capital market and pension system. The Prime Minister indicated that the pension reform is planned to launch in the third quarter of 2018. Currently relevant legal amendments are being developed and applicable institutional and technical support is being set up.
Permanent Representative of the International Monetary Fund to Georgia Francois Painchaud, the first Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Finance Dimitri Kumsishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Gakharia, President of the National Bank of Georgia Koba Gvenetadze, Deputy Minister of Finance Nikoloz Gagua and Vice Presidents of the NBG - Archil Mestvirishvili and Murtaz Kikoria also attended the meeting.
