Meeting with the Secretary General of the International Ski Federation (FIS)

Georgia may host FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championship in 2023 - Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Secretary General of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Sarah Lewis discussed respective prospect during their meeting today.

Prime Minister introduced the Secretary General of the FIS to the steps taken by the Government for the purpose of developing the highland resorts, including the implemented and ongoing large-scale infrastructural projects.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted that the Government of Georgia spares no effort to foster the development of the ski resorts. Three of them - Goderdzi, Tetnuldi and Kokhta-Mitarbi have already started operating; general development plans of other four - Bakuriani, Tusheti, Mestia and Bakhmaro are being drafted.

Alongside with Sarah Lewis, FIS Freestyle Skiing Coordinator Joseph Fitzgerald is also visiting Georgia. He will perform the technical examination of the infrastructure necessary for holding the World Championship. On June 27-28 he will study the capacities and potential of Gudauri and Bakuriani on the spot.

Georgian Ski Federation submitted candidacy of Georgia for hosting the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championship on May 1, 2017. The host country of the Championship will be selected at the FIS congress in Greece in May 2018.
