Meeting of the Government as February 13, 2014
2014-02-13 The government session was held on February 13, 2014. 27 items of the session agenda were discussed with 2 (15th and 16th ) issues postponed, and 3 items added, in total 28 issues were approved. Besides, the Cabinet approved the Georgian draft law on ,,Insertion of Criminal Law Amendments". The draft law aims to ensure the right to respect for private life and prevention of arbitrary interference with the given right. Making sanctions stricter for criminal offences envisaged by the articles 157, 158 and 159 of Criminal Code of Georgia represents the most important innovation of the draft law. Terms of punishment significantly increase for some offences. Taking into account "private life information" and "personal data" in the disposition of the article 157, represents considerable innovation. It should be noted that while elaborating the presented amendments, international experience was also taken into consideration. The proposed wording of the article 157 expands its scope and enables not to leave other actions related to violation of the right to privacy beyond criminal liability that are not included in the provisions of the existing article.
