Georgian Prime Minister’s meeting with Estonian counterpart in Brussels Print Version

Today, Georgian prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, as part of his visit to Brussels, met with his Estonian counterpart, Kaja Kallas.

The meeting praised the special friendly relations between the two countries and Estonia's firm support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for the country's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

The meeting singled out close cooperation and Estonia's tremendous assistance within the scope of development cooperation, to foster the alignment of Georgia's institutions with European standards. In this context, the parties underlined the newly adopted 2021-2024 Strategy for Georgia-Estonia Development Cooperation defining as priority directions empowering democratic state institutions and systems, bettering education, supporting entrepreneurship, and focusing on climate and environment as part of development projects.

The parties spoke about the successful political dialogue between the two countries and the importance of furthering bilateral ties in the post-pandemic period, also underscoring successful partnership in the areas of innovation, digital technology, education, and defense. The parties pointed out the importance of further deepening economic cooperation and the need to tap into the full potential in this area.

The meeting paid attention to the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit and Georgia's progress toward European and Euro-Atlantic integration. According to the Head of Georgian Government, the Georgian side expects the summit's political declaration to reflect such important issues as gradual integration into the single EU market and greater transport, energy, and digital connectivity with the EU, including through maximally tapping into the potential of the Black Sea.

The Georgian Prime Minister thanked his Estonian counterpart for Estonia's support of Georgia's integration into NATO, also emphasizing that Georgia remains the Alliance's reliable partner pressing on toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

The conversation also focused on the dire security and humanitarian situation in Georgia's occupied territories, also on the Georgian Government's peace policy. Kaja Kallas reassured her Georgian counterpart of Estonia's firm support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
