2021-11-08

"These were genuinely historic elections and a truly historic victory!" announced Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia when referring to the recently held municipal elections at the Executive Government Meeting today.

According to the Head of Government of Georgia, it was a victory won by people and country. Prime minister of Georgia thanked the society for the declared trust and noted that authorities will do their best to live up to the expectations of people.

"Of course, it is the most rewarding work, however responsibility is greater. We conceptualize this and will be solely concentrating our attention on the work. I wish to publicly instruct the cabinet ministers to talk only about work from now on. We should solely focus on work to communicate with people through progress in delivering the promises made during the election campaign and through projects and initiatives that we announced. We pledge to work round the clock - 24/7 with greatest motivation and absolutely replenished, boosted energy. We understand it well that our people and our country are challenged with lots of problems: availability of jobs and employment opportunities, poverty, unemployment, pandemic, occupation... That is why, we have no time to lose. We will be solely focusing on work, by investing our time and efforts round the clock -24/7 - for the benefit of our people and our country" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

The Head of Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission and each staff member of the organization for the exemplary organization of the voting process, held at a high level.

"We understand it well that for the opposition it was a difficult failure to accept, however when people reject you and elections end with a defeat, it means a lot. Probably, it should serve as another lesson to be learned by them. On our part, we will be communicating with our people solely through work. I personally pledge to have all the projects and initiatives under my personal supervision and control to be permanently briefed about the speed and quality of work that we promised during the election campaign. I urge the cabinet ministers to do the same in a proactive manner and to increase our interaction with people in regions to achieve greater progress and higher degree of prosperity for our citizens. Elections were held in an exemplary manner and I wish to thank the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, along with each staff member of the organization for the voting process held at the highest level. We now have 3 years ahead of us for a peaceful development and I once again wish to urge everyone, including the opposition, to thoroughly conceptualize it. Time has come for narrow, personal and party interests to be put aside and to care for the national interests instead. Our prime goal should be the best interests of our state and people, rather than narrow party interests. Therefore, if the opposition wants to have genuine debates on the work to be done, it should be held within the parliament. We - the entire cabinet of ministers - the Government of Georgia stand ready to cooperate with the opposition in a constructive manner as this country is equally ours and our victory is common for all" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

The Head of Government of Georgia also wished success to the newly elected mayor in Tsalenjikha, who is the only winning candidate from the opposition.

"As a Prime Minister of Georgia, I will have a very close, active interaction with elected mayors. I wish to congratulate them on their victory in the elections. It was the choice made by our people. Their will was expressed through voting and we should all obey the public will. Also, I wish to wish success to the Mayor of Tsalenjikha. He is the only deservedly winning candidate from the opposition. I wish to tell him that the entire central government will stand ready to cooperate with him in a most constructive manner. Of course, as a Prime Minister of Georgia, I will do the same for Tsalenjikha as I will do for other municipalities of the country. My remark made during the election campaign caused some misconception, however I wish to specify it today: the entire government stands ready to cooperate with the opposition mayor as well. Thus, I wish to thank again our people - our voters - and state herewith that it is essential to focus on work from now on" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

The Head of Government of Georgia also spoke about the Adjusted Draft Budget submitted to the Parliament of Georgia, thereby noting that economic growth will manifest itself in a double digit indicator this year according to the assumptions made by the central authorities of the country.

"We submitted an Adjusted Draft Budget to the Parliament of Georgia. It is an updated version of the annual budget law, though we will continue our intensive work in November by engaging the line ministries, government agencies and public institutions to submit the very final draft by the end of the month. Meanwhile, we will be cooperating with the Parliament of Georgia and MPs in an active manner to agree on the final draft. We have very strong economic growth. Its indicator in the first 9 months of the year has reached 11.3%. Real economic growth projection has also been revisited and we assume that this year will be completed with a double-digit economic growth indicator. Considering the increased projections, nominal GDP forecast has also been rising and instead of 58.4 BLN GEL projected in Q1 of 2021, the updated draft reflects 58.7 BLN GEL. Real economic growth projection for 2022 is 6% on the grounds of the macroeconomic indicators of the country, while the nominal GDP will reach 65 BLN GEL in 2022, which means that GDP per capita will exceed 5500 USD" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.
