Prime Minister of Georgia and President of Montenegro Discuss Deepening of Bilateral Cooperation and EU Integration Process Print Version

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Milo Đukanović, President of Montenegro in Tbilisi today.

It was noted at the interface meeting of leaders that a historic - first - official visit of the President of Montenegro to Georgia is a step made forward towards bilateral relations. Discussions were related to the deepening of cooperation between the two countries in various areas on the grounds of common European values. Focus was made on the significance of active political dialogue at the level of executive and legislative authorities. Current partnership in the field of defense was also highlighted.

Meeting got centered on the significance of promoting trade and economic relations, as well as boosted cooperation in the sector of tourism, which is a key factor of economic growth, especially in the post-pandemic period.

Special attention was paid at the meeting to EU integration, as a shared goal of Georgia and Montenegro. The Prime Minister of Georgia welcomed the readiness of Montenegro to share its experience gained in the European integration, thereby noting that Georgian authorities are preparing for making an official application for a fully-fledged membership into the EU in 2024.

The Head of Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to NATO and allies for their consistent support of Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-recognition policy.

Significance of the Black Sea Security was in the centre of attention at the meeting, along with a cooperation of Georgia and NATO towards this end.

Contribution of Georgia in global security was stressed, along with the evacuation of international organizations, institutions and partners from Afghanistan.

Grave violations of security and humanitarian norms in the occupied territories of Georgia were discussed with due attention at the meeting. The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the President of Montenegro for the solid support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia.

Interface meeting between the leaders was followed with negotiations in an extended format, which engaged the following officials from the Presidential Delegation of Montenegro: Milan Rochen, Adviser on Extraordinary Affairs of Montenegro; Tamara Brajovic, Adviser on Foreign Policy of Montenegro; H.E. Dragica Ponorac, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to Georgia; and from the Georgian side: David Zalkaliani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia; H.E. Zaal Gogsadze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Montenegro and Ilia Darchiashvili, Head of Government Administration of Georgia.
