The third President of Georgia, the wanted Mikheil Saakashvili has been detained and taken to a penitentiary institution. It was announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia today.
According to the Head of Government of Georgia, law enforcement bodies carried out the detention action at the highest level.
The Prime Minister of Georgia thanked Vakhtang Gomelauri, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Grigol Liluashvili, Head of State Security Service of Georgia, along with every officer engaged in the action.
"Third President of Georgia - the wanted Mikheil Saakashvili - has been detained and taken to a penitentiary institution. Our law enforcement officers carried out the action at the highest level. They had prior information on his movements, starting from Ukraine to Georgia and this process was under full control. Respective measures were implemented. Agencies were coordinating actions between them and a proper place with timing was selected for his detention with least impediments. I wish to thank Vakhtang Gomelauri, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Grigol Liluashvili, Head of State Security Service of Georgia, along with all the other officers that were engaged in this truly unprecedented action" stated Irakli Garibashvili.
In the opinion of the Head of Government of Georgia, former President Saakashvili is an offender, criminal and sadly he acted in a shameful manner numerous times, however even this shameless man will be treated by the authorities as our people and our culture deserve.
"I wish to remind our population of a statement made by our party founder - Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili - in October 2012, right after the victory, which echoes today's action and the highest standard pursued by us. Let me remind you what was said by Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili: We will treat our opponents not as they deserve, but what fits our country - our Georgian people - population of Georgia and our culture. We understand it well that former President Saakashvili is an offender, criminal and sadly he behaved in a shameless manner, though even this shameful person will be treated by us as our people and our culture deserves.
I wish to remind you that it is BIDZINAOBA today as it is October 1. I did not have an opportunity to congratulate this day and historic victory of October 1 to the founder of our party so far today. Nine years have passed since that historic victory, which our founder won together with the Georgian people. I congratulate Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili with this day - October 1 - and wish peace and stable development to our Georgian people" stated Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.
