The Government of Georgia will allocate up to 10 MNL GEL to complete the rehabilitation of Abastumani Observatory. It was announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Abastumani Observatory of Astrophysics named after Evgeni Kharadze, which he visited today together with Kakha Kuchava, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.

The Head of Government of Georgia was briefed about the planned and implemented projects at the Observatory by Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and Irakli Karseladze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted that an international Supervisory Council will be created at the Observatory in the nearest future to advance it to a new level of development and to position it at the international arena.

According to the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, as soon as the ministry receives the blueprints, the central telescope and digital museum of the observatory will be rehabilitated and refurbished.

The Head of Government of Georgia was also briefed about the past and planned projects in Abastumani.

First phase of urban renovation has been completed with an aim of transforming Abastumani into a resort of modern style. Rehabilitation of the National Astrophysics Observatory Named After Evgeni Kharadze was completed in 2020, along with a cable lift originally built in 1982. Master plan was developed for Abastumani settlement and both stages of rehabilitation were completed for the water supply of the community, along with a sewage system. Second phase of Urban Renovation of Abastumani is progressing actively and is budgeted at 47 MLN GEL.

Construction of a bridge access, bus station and parking lot has been launched in the community with 11.6 MLN GEL allocated from the State Budget. Works under both phases of urban renovation are carried out with support of the World Bank. In total, 315 108 232 GEL will be used for the development of infrastructure in Abastumani. Out of which works in the value of 49 528 948 GEL have been completed already.

The Head of Government of Georgia was also briefed about the rehabilitation of Baghdati-Abastumani, as well as Abastumani Bypass Roads, thereby highlighting the restoration of historic houses on the central street of the settlement.

The Prime Minister of Georgia got also informed about the hotels being built or planned in Abastumani. Various business groups are engaged in the process and total investment volume of the referred projects is up to 442 MLN GEL.

Paragraph Abastumani will be a 5-Star hotel from the upper class of Autograph Collection under the umbrella of Marriott International Chain. Construction is in progress already. Total volume of investment made into this project is about 150 MLN GEL. Construction is due to be completed in 2023.

Also, Rooms Hotel is planned to be built with an investment value of about 43 MLN GEL, along with Vardzia with 36 MLN GEL, EIKON Abastumani with 5 MLN GEL, Royal Abastumani with 6.5 MLN GEL, Aghobili with 140 MLN GEL and Imperial with 25 MLN GEL. Also, it is planned to rehabilitate the historic Bath of Abastumani, which is budgeted at about 36 MLN GEL.

The Prime Minister of Georgia was accompanied to Abastumani Observatory by MP Anton Obolashvili, MP Givi Chichinadze and Besik Amiranashvili, State Representative in Samtskhe-Javakheti.
