Prime Minister visits rehabilitation site of the Virgin Mary Cathedral in Atskuri

Today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, together with parliament speaker Kakha Kuchava, visited the Virgin Mary Cathedral in Atskuri under rehabilitation financed by Cartu Foundation.

The full rehabilitation of the Atskuri Cathedral of the Virgin Mary was launched in 2014, during Garibashvili's first tenure as Prime Minister.

Metropolitan Theodore of Akhaltsikhe and Tao-Klarjeti briefed the Head of Government on the 10th-century historical cathedral rehabilitation process. He also thanked the Prime Minister for launching rehabilitation work and presented him with an icon of Saint George.

Metropolitan Theodore pointed out that Cartu Foundation is also rehabilitating the Atskuri Fortress.

On his visit to the rehabilitation site, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze, Majoritarian MP Anton Obolashvili (Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Borjomi, and Aspindza), Head of the Government Administration's Regional Liaison Department Leri Barnabishvili, and Samtskhe-Javakheti State Representative Besik Amiranashvili.
