2021-04-09

The Interagency Coordination Council recommends employers to transfer their employees to remote work schedule and declares May 4-11 as nation-wide public holidays. This decision was made at the Inter-Agency Coordination Council Meeting led by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia in the format of a video conference today.

At its meeting today, the Coordination Council discussed the epidemiological situation, which is deteriorating around the world, including Georgia.

It was noted that the rising trend of cases witnessed in the country is noteworthy and requires a particularly responsible approach from both the government and the citizens. Need to comply with the imposed regulations was once again underlined at the meeting today, which will prevent the country from the third wave of the virus and, consequently, will keep away from the need of imposing tight restrictions.

The Coordinating Council once again calls on the citizens to wear facemasks correctly, to practice social distancing and to stay away from organizing crowded gatherings and social events, which is prohibited under a Government Decree. At the same time, as it is commonly known, the referred Decree issued by the Government of Georgia prohibits the transfer/letting of space for social events (e.g. weddings, any type of anniversaries, funerals, etc.) and mass entertainment events. Breach of this restriction will result in charges to be brought under the law.

Under the instructions of the Head of Government of Georgia, the relevant agencies will monitor the enforcement of all regulations aimed at preventing a spread of the virus with greater firmness.

According to the decision of the Council and based on the assessment of the current epidemiological situation, the current restriction on mobility remains valid from 21:00 to 05: 00.

The meeting was also focused on the importance of the vaccination process progressing in the country with further intensity. It was noted that the country will receive new doses of vaccines in the near future. At the same time, under the instructions and with direct engagement of the Prime Minister of Georgia, negotiations are actively pursued with pharmaceutical companies and partner countries to mobilize additional doses as early as possible.

Since the detection of the first case of the novel Coronavirus in Georgia, 287 183 test-positive cases have been identified, out of which 276 426 people have recovered and 3 858 died.

Currently, 233 individuals are in quarantine, 285 - at clinical hotels and 2 129 - in hospitals under medical supervision.

The Inter-Agency Coordination Council led by the Prime Minister of Georgia actively engages the Parliament of Georgia chaired by MP Archil Talakvadze and Administration of President of Georgia.
