Presidents of European Commission and European Council Congratulate Giorgi Gakharia on Reappointment as Prime Minister

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel congratulate Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia on his reappointment.

The congratulatory letter emphasizes the EU's support for Georgia's efforts toward democratic consolidation and the goals of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area.

"Dear Prime Minister,
We would like to extend our warm congratulations on your reappointment as Prime Minister of Georgia.

The partnership between Georgia and the European Union continues to deliver an excellent level of cooperation and significant progress on many important issues. The EU is committed to continue supporting Georgia's efforts toward the consolidation of democracy and the wider goals of our political association and economic integration under the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area.

We trust that all efforts by those in positions of influence will be deployed to agree a consensual way forward to resolve the current political situation and ensure a democratic, stable, prosperous and inclusive Georgia. This is essential of course not least in combatting the significant challenges presented as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic," the letter reads.
