The Interagency Coordination Council chaired by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia once again urges citizens to observe applicable regulations, use facemasks, and keep social distancing as an important precondition for preventing infection.

Held at the Administration of the Government, today's meeting of the council discussed the country's epidemiological situation and the dynamic of the spread of the virus. It was pointed out that the growing numbers are no reason to panic because the situation is under control and manageable.

The meeting reiterated that no state of emergency or tight nationwide restrictions are under consideration.

As Head of the Government Administration Natia Mezvrishvili stated after the council's meeting, the economy cannot close down, because that will affect our citizens above all else. Consequently, to prevent that from happening, each citizen must exercise high social responsibility. Only localized, targeted restrictions may apply regionally, as need be. The public will be informed in advance.

Healthcare specialists emphasized the importance of using facemasks as one of the most effective means of protection against the virus recognized in the world.

"It has been a long time since we, together with our citizens, have been fighting the pandemic, and now that we have learned a lot, we should not be forced to use penalties against people. We have learned enough to know that we should use facemasks. I reiterate that the number of infection cases largely depends on each citizen observing rules. As we insist on facemasks, social distancing, and avoidance of non-essential gatherings, we must remember that imprudence on anyone's part is linked directly to higher infection numbers, which is why we must be maximally watchful and observe the rules," Natia Mezvrishvili stated.

As of today, Georgia has 3,913 confirmed coronavirus cases, of which 1,574 have recovered. 41 Georgian citizens have been transported for treatment from abroad, and 23 people have died.

At this point, 5,255 people are under quarantine, and 836 are under medical supervision in inpatient facilities.
The Parliament of Georgia led by Speaker Archil Talakvadze and the President's Administration are actively involved with the work of the Interagency Coordination Council under the Prime Minister.
