After today's presentation of the latest report by the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia answered journalists' questions.

In response to a question about the recent statement by President of the European People's Party Donald Tusk, the Head of Government stated that the country's constitutional process is underway, and it will be finalized as befits our country.

"I completely agree that the March 8 agreement must be fulfilled. As you know, the constitutional process is underway, and I am confident about its finalization as befits our country. I have said before that the electoral system is vitally important for our country's further democratization, and an it is equally crucial for the further democratization and empowerment of our institutions that Georgia's law enforcement system and judiciary dedicate themselves to legal offences and crimes," the Prime Minister stated.

In response to a question about June 20, Giorgi Gakharia stated that-regardless of how many years pass from these events: one, two, or many-it is a fact that Georgia's law enforcement system has staved off devastating destabilization and rioting in Georgia.

"There are many questions regarding June 20, like who issued the orders, whether or not bullets were fired aiming at targets, but all that is secondary. What matters to me is that, on June 20-and it does not matter how much time passes after it: a year or two, or more-the Interior Ministry and Georgia's law enforcement system took action and averted devastating destabilization and rioting in the country. It was an assault on the Parliament, a state institution, curbed by the Interior Ministry, its personnel, and the law enforcement system as a whole. It was their duty which they fulfilled," the Prime Minister underlined.

The Head of Government, in commenting on the arrest of a Russian citizen, emphasized that the law enforcement system must, within the tightest possible deadlines, investigate this case and provide the public with an absolutely clear picture, so that the country's enemies, both external and internal, may be prevented from speculating.

"Georgia's law enforcement system must, in the shortest possible timeframe, get to the bottom of it all, and offer the public an absolutely transparent picture, so that the country's enemies, both external and internal, may be prevented from speculating, from using it for political interests. There are several important points to consider. Firstly, Georgia's law enforcement system, namely a particular institution, averted a serious crime, and that is a fact. Secondly, Georgia's law enforcement system must do everything to protect everyone, every journalist from danger. It is their duty and an indicator of our country's democracy and safety, among others. And thirdly, this particular institution and Georgia's law enforcement system as a whole must act as fast as possible to get to the bottom of it and provide the public with a perfectly clear picture, so that the country's enemies, both abroad and at home, may not be able to use all this for political interests," the Prime Minister stated.
