Crisis as an opportunity for the re-opening of tourism being the most damaged sector of the pandemic, along with safe corridors and negotiations held with counterparts on the resumption of international flights have been listed among the main discussion topics of a work-group meeting held under the leadership of Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Government Administration today.
It was noted that negotiations on the establishment of safe corridors has reached an active phase with Israel, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Baltic countries. Embassies have received relevant instructions to pursue active communication with respective institutions of various countries towards this end.
As of today, over 20 international air carriers have already expressed interest and readiness to gradually resume flights to Georgia from July 1, 2020.
Technical details and standards, which will become mandatory for airports, air carriers and every business operating in the tourism sector, have been discussed. At the same time, concrete decisions have been made to become mandatory for tourism destinations classified as so called Green Zones. They will be presented next week to the private sector.
Prime Minister of Georgia once again stressed the importance of turning the global crisis into an opportunity for the economy of Georgia, which will let the country become more effective and successful in the global competition. Head of Government of Georgia believes that tourism is one of the good examples of this, thereby noting that Georgia should be one of the first countries to re-open tourism and accept international visitors by making sure that its citizens and visitors stay healthy and safe by adhering to rules, which is critically important on the background of the global pandemic.
