A tailor-made platform is being created under the management of a Business Ombudsman of Georgia with an aim of coordinating initiatives expressed by businesses within the context of social responsibility. It was announced by Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia at an economic theme group of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council of the Government of Georgia established for the prevention of COVID-19 influx.

First meeting of Mikheil Daushvili, Business Ombudsman of Georgia with the private sector of the country will be held today within the referred format.

Head of Government of Georgia inquired about the execution of decisions made by the Inter-Agency Coordination Council of the Government of Georgia at the economic theme group meeting today. Discussions were related to the implementation of recommendation issued to businesses, including the restaurants, fitness centers, casinos and gyms, along with a close-down of other service sector outlets.

Natia Turnava, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia presented information on the domestic production of face masks and disinfection solutions launched in the country.

In addition, National Mail Service was instructed to most efficiently complete its work on the mechanism of public service delivery to socially vulnerable and single pensioners aged over 70.

Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Georgia shared information about the current situation in view of food supplies in the country. It was noted that no problem exists towards this end and citizens of Georgia need not build stock at home. Besides, as instructed by the Prime Minister of Georgia, a mechanism will be established to avoid price increase on 7 basic consumption items and commodities in coordination with businesses.

Ministers in the economic team have been instructed to develop a plan of support to be provided to sectors adversely affected by the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and a program of economic incentives to various sectors.

Introduction of a distance learning and challenges experienced so far have also been discussed at the meeting.

Issue related to the home transportation of Georgian citizens that currently happen to be overseas has also been discussed at the meeting. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia noted that diplomatic missions of the country actively keep record of Georgian citizens willing to return home with the available flights.
