Today, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia met with the Best Georgian Athletes of 2019 and personally congratulated them on their achievements. The Prime Minister hosted a special dinner honoring Lukhum Chkhvimiani, Lasha Talakhadze, Beka Lomtadze, Nugzar Tsurtsumia, and Lasha Gobadze. The dinner was also attended by world freestyle wrestling champion Zurab Iakobishvili.
Notably, 2019 marked the first time in the history of Georgian sports when all 6 athletes garnered Olympic medals for their homeland, an event inspiring the Government of Georgia to make an unprecedented decision by honoring each of them with the title of Best Georgian Athlete.
Giorgi Gakharia thanked the champions for their contribution to and promotion of Georgian sports and wished them success in their future athletic endeavors.
