Prime Minister of Georgia Meets USAID Deputy Administrator Print Version

Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia met Bonnie Glick, Deputy Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) today.

Head of Government of Georgia and visiting official reviewed programs implemented with support of the USAID to facilitate economic growth and develop the democratic institutions in the country. Vivid progress demonstrated by Georgia in every direction has been noted at the meeting. Productive cooperation between Georgia and USAID has also been underlined.

Prime Minister of Georgia and USAID Deputy Administrator discussed future programs and focused on a mid-term plan for 5 years, which will be tailored to the priorities of both Georgia and USAID.

Deputy Administrator of USAID stressed the progress achieved by the country in the education sector. It was confirmed that US authorities acknowledge the effort made by the Government of Georgia towards this and other directions. Reference was also made toward the Program in Support of Youth and Women Entrepreneurship.

Economic initiative of Ivanka Trump has been launched in Georgia with support of the US Government, which is aimed at supporting the entrepreneurship among women and youth of Georgia.

Extension of YES-Georgia Program by USAID aims to empower women entrepreneurs. By the beginning of 2024 YES-Georgia will ensure the training of over 2500 women in business management, legal and accounting service delivery, mentorship and networking opportunities. USAID will be financing the program with 840 000 USD within the scope of the initiative.

Head of Government of Georgia thanked the US Delegation and once again reaffirmed the visiting officials in full support of new programs to be supported by the USAID, which play a huge role in the successful implementation of reforms by the Government of Georgia, which once again clearly evidences the close and strategic partnership between the USA and Georgia.

American people have supported Georgia with 1.8 BLN USD through the USAID within the scope of a successful partnership since opening its office in the country.

Meeting held at the Government Administration was attended by Kelly C. Degnan, US Ambassador to Georgia; Peter A. Wiebler, USAID Mission Director; David Zalkaliani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia; Natia Mezvrishvili, Head of Government Administration and Irakli Chikovani, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Georgia.
