Prime Minister of Georgia meets Secretary General of OECD in Davos Print Version

Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia met Ángel Gurría, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) within the scope of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos today.

It was noted at the meeting that Georgia has an excellent cooperation with OECD.

Prime Minister of Georgia noted that Georgia appreciates contribution made by the OECD in the reform agenda of the country towards small and medium enterprise (SME) support, investment policies and taxation system.

Head of Government of Georgia also welcomed the support of OECD towards the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia in developing an SME Development Strategy and noted that new one is intended to be developed for 2021-2025 in full compliance with principles of the European Union.

General Secretary of OECD praised the current reforms implemented in Georgia and noted that the country enjoys a possibility of becoming a member of various committees and participates in the development and definition of various policy standards.

According to the Secretary General, OECD supports the advancement of the export credit rating of the country. In his opinion, organization stands ready to create a platform of support towards Georgia to better expose the decision-makers in the country with positive results of reforms that will be significantly considered in the rating systems.

"OECD and Georgia enjoy quite strong cooperation. We work on topics related to SMEs, investments, green economy, sustainability, productivity growth. We are thrilled with all these. Georgia plans to gain a greater engagement in our programs and committees. We also spoke about taxation today. We are jointly implementing an international taxation initiative, especially towards digital taxation and international program of control. So far, Georgia has been very actively participating in all these initiatives both within the Work Groups, as well as in the Steering Group. Overall, we have a very active cooperation with Georgia and are ready to do more" noted the General Secretary of OECD.
