Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia met Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs today.

Significance of the United Nations, as a Chair of Geneva International Discussions (GID) in the peaceful resolution of the conflict has been underlined at the meeting. It was also noted that this organization has a special role on the background of routine challenges faced in the occupied territories of the country. Focus was made on the acute difficulties experienced along the occupation line, including that of Chorchana, restriction of movement towards Akhalgori, episodes of barbed wire construction and detention of civilians.

Head of Government of Georgia expressed hopes that UN will use its leverages more actively to avoid further provocations and to deescalate the situation.

Prime Minister of Georgia reaffirmed the UN Under-Secretary-General in the solid commitment towards the peaceful politics aimed at the implementation of mutually beneficial projects envisaged by the New Peace Initiative.
