I am confident that we will return the development of the tourism sector to the trajectory it had after the implementation of our policy, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated in his answer to a question about the number of tourist impacting the GEL exchange rate.

According to the Head of Government, the ongoing fundamental economic developments and expectations are the main factors influencing the national currency, while tourism statistics testify that the Government's policy has been prudent and resolute enough to bring concrete positive economic results to the citizens.

"In the period prior to June, we had a 20% increase in tourist numbers. In June, a 40% year-over-year growth was recorded in Adjara. Two factors influence the process of setting exchange rates: fundamental economic developments and expectations. Expectations were formulated in a very negative environment, including by those of irresponsible individuals who spread such lies. By these individuals I mean the destructive opposition forces and the media under their control. Among others, negative expectations involved possibly dropping trade causing additional problems for our citizens. The tourism statistics show what we had last year, revealing that, in fact, we have the same numbers this year, while the business and economic sectors expected the rapid growth that was initially planned. In light of the foregoing, not only we do not have a 40% increase, but practically have the same statistics as last year. I am confident that we will return the development of the tourism sector to the trajectory it had after the implementation of our policy. These numbers prove that our policy has been prudent and resolute enough to bring concrete positive economic results to the citizens. Get used to hearing the truth. The Government is responsible for timely regulating such problems, forecasting and preventing them," the Prime Minister stated.
