GOVERNMENT INITIATES TIGHTENED REGULATIONS ON COLD ARMS Print Version

2019-05-10

Government is initiating tightened regulations on cold arms. Respective legislative amendments were submitted to the Government today.

As Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia announced at the regular press briefing held prior to the Executive Government Meeting today, general public has been calling for it in an argumented manner.

"We all agree that public order and security, law enforcement at large is a priority of us all. Naturally, we do our best towards this end and have planned a series of measures so that we adhere to the core principle of democratic state - human rights and freedom. We are tightening the regulation on cold arms, which is a very significant measure. Initiative has been drafted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. Naturally, we are not only talking about a strict response and follow-up on offences, but also prevention and abolition of uncontrolled circulation of cold arms. We took into consideration the experience of European countries. Any individual could so far trade with cold arms at any place in Georgia - even in the vicinity of schools - with the current regulation and this is practiced without compliance to any standard whatsoever. It is impermissible! Our draft regulation introduces a new practice and I am convinced it will enable us to safeguard our society from a lot of risk factors that are stemming from the illegal circulation of cold arms" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.
