2019-05-10

Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia disbursed by 100 MLN GEL more as of May 1, 2019 in contrast with the previous year. It was announced by Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia at a regular press briefing held prior to the Executive Government Meeting today.

According to the Head of Government of Georgia, significant focus is made on the development of infrastructure in the country - both at the central and municipal levels. Nevertheless, understanding has been challenging even after increasing the budget allocation towards this end.

"I have set it among top priorities of the team to adjust the procedures and approaches towards this end, so that society and we get assured that such large investments are performing efficiently, within the pre-defined deadlines and with an expected speed. In contrast with the previous year, Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development disbursed 350 MLN GEL as of May 1, 2019. That is, 100 MLN GEL more was spent compared to the respective indicator of the previous year. United Water Utility Company has exceeded its plan by 27%, while the Road Department - by 17%. This is a very significant progress" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

In the opinion of the Head of Government of Georgia, significant progress has been witnessed at the municipal level as well.

"We have significantly increased the budget funding for local municipalities this year. Over 261 MLN GEL has been allocated from the Project Implementation Fund, which is 1.7 times higher than the previous year indicator. We have a significant progress towards the end too. We are actually witnessing a 100% execution of the budget. On the background when this time last year 73% was the budget execution indicator and we almost have 100% execution this time in the context of an increased budget funding, there are grounds to think that we have a significant progress. Works worth of 207 MLN GEL have already been contracted for the implementation of 409 projects so far, out of which works have commenced at 250 project sites. It is a very optimistic and promising development" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of Government of Georgia thanked his team members and urged for even greater efficiency.

"We have a significant progress. Adjusted procedures and approaches have reaped tangible results. However, as more funds are targeted towards the referred projects in the coming months, we need to try harder and reach better results" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.
