Mamuka Bakhtadze: Georgia will become regional arbitration and mediation leader Print Version

2019-03-12

As Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated at the briefing before today's Government meeting, the introduction of the institution of mediation will free courts from minor dispute cases, which will make sure that minor disputes are resolved faster in Georgia.

Today, the Ministry of Justice raised the issue of institutionalizing mediation.

According to the Prime Minister, Georgia is poised to become the region's leader and hub in terms of both arbitration and mediation.

"As you know, most of our citizens believe lengthy processes to be the main problem in the judiciary, which causes, among others, judicial overload. The introduction of the institution of mediation will free courts from minor dispute cases, which will make sure that minor disputes in general are resolved at fastest possible rates in Georgia. To me, the introduction of this institution has greater meaning. As you know, last year we signed a memorandum with the International Court of Arbitration, which enables us to transform Tbilisi into a regional arbitration hub. Today's initiative complements arbitration with mediation. I am convinced that Georgia will be the region's arbitration and mediation leader and, accordingly, the regional hub, which is, in turn, a precondition for turning Georgia into the region's economic center," Mamuka Bakhtadze stated.
