Special forces member Ivane Golashvili, who was killed in the special counterterrorism operation on Beri Gabriel Salosi Street, has been posthumously awarded 1st Degree Vakhtang Gorgasali Order on the Prime Minister's endorsement.

The order was awarded by Mamuka Bakhtadze to the family of the member of Special Operations Unit of the State Security Service today, Ivane Golashvili's birthday. The captain, killed in the counterterrorist operation, would turn 43 on December 9.

The Prime Minister, together with Head of the State Security Service Vakhtang Gomelauri, hosted Ivane Golashvili's spouse, Tamuna Khelaia, and children, Mariam and Giorgi, at the Administration of the Government.

The Head of Government reiterated Ivane Golashvili's exceptional selflessness during the counterterrorist operation, and emphasized that all of Georgia is proud of such heroes.

"Vano Golashvili symbolizes courage and selflessness. As your family, Mariam and Giorgi will always be proud of their father's heroism, so is each Georgian proud of him. The Georgian state rests upon men like Vano," Mamuka Bakhtadze stated.

Vano Golashvili's candidacy for 1st Degree Vakhtang Gorgasali Order, for his special merit in service to the homeland and contribution to the fight against terrorism, was endorsed and referred to the President by the Prime Minister on August 1, 2018.

Special forces member Ivane Golashvili, for his special courage on duty, was also awarded posthumously the Courage Medal by the State Security Service.
