Today, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze met with World Judo Champion Guram Tushishvili and World Silver and Bronze Medalists Varlam Liparteliani and Amiran Papinashvili, respectively. The Prime Minister personally congratulated the Georgian judokas on their recent victories and wished them success in their future endeavors.

During the meeting, prospects of the development of Georgian sports, the Georgian athletes' future plans, and the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games were discussed. At the recent World Championship in Baku, the Georgian National Judo Team garnered three medals: one gold, one silver, and one bronze, and came third among 124 countries of the world, next only to Japan and Korea. In the team competition, Georgia came fourth.
Notably, the world champion's title claimed by Georgia at this year's competition is the first since 2014.
The 2019 World Judo Championship will be hosted by Japan's capital Tokyo.
