Georgia-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement to Be Referred to Parliament for Ratification Print Version

2018-10-03

The FTA signed in July between Georgia and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China will be referred to Parliament for ratification. As Georgian Prime Minister stated before today's Government meeting, it is the first agreement of this type signed by Hong Kong in our region.

"Georgia's greater integration into global economy is our economic strategy's top priority. Let me remind you that we are the only country in the region to enjoy free trade with the EU, China, and our neighbors alike. However, our task is to expand this significant achievement by putting in place new economic platforms.

The agreement with Hong Kong involves defining conditions for free product movement and promoting trade in services, also covering such issues as intellectual property rights, elimination of technical trade-related barriers, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and all other important directions.
Hong Kong is the most important economic center in Southeast Asia, which provides our entrepreneurs with a unique opportunity to enjoy access to a market of almost 8 million with the highest purchase power," the Prime Minister said.
