Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia met Cristian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia today.

Discussions at the meeting were related to the productive cooperation between the Government of Georgia and Council of Europe.

Head of the Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the Council of Europe for a vivid support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and stated that authorities of the country fully endorse the implementation of the Action Plan for 2016-2019 as developed by the Council of Europe.

Prime Minister also stressed the significance of a consolidated report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in relation with the conflicts in Georgia, with which the Council of Europe keeps the international community informed on the current condition in the occupied regions of the country, inter alia on the protection of human rights.

Cristian Urse noted that Council of Europe welcomes the peace-keeping initiative of the Government of Georgia titled as a Step to a Better Future and stands ready to further support the implementation of projects aimed at the restoration of trust among the societies affected by the conflict.

Focus has been made on the successful cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Meeting of its Monitoring Committee is scheduled to be held in Tbilisi this autumn.

Parties also discussed the upcoming presidential elections. Prime Minister of Georgia thanked the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for sending a mission of observers over the pre-election phase and noted that Government of Georgia will continue to ensure free, transparent and fair environment for the elections in line with the applicable international standards.
