2018-04-18

Positive economic dynamics stemming from the Georgian Government's correct and consistent policy, success in the implementation of the four-point reform agenda, and the Asian Development Bank's support for Georgia were the key issues during today's meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and ADB's new Director General for its Central and West Asia Department Werner Liepach.
The Head of Government thanked ADB for supporting the implementation of Georgia's infrastructural projects and pension, capital market, and PPP reforms, and wished success to Werner Liepach in his future endeavors.
For his part, Werner Liepach emphasized ADB's strong and growing partnership with Georgia and confirmed ADB's commitment to continuing its support for Georgia's economic development.
According to him, Georgia is a vital corridor connecting Europe and Asia, and the infrastructural projects implemented in the country with ADB's support have proved exceptionally successful.
When discussing future plans, special attention was paid to the importance of the Kvesheti-Kobi project also implemented with support from ADB.
The Kvesheti-Kobi section is part of the internationally important Mtskheta-Stepantzminda-Larsi Highway, and the project involves the construction of a 24-kilometer road. As it was pointed out, the new road will serve as a significant prevention means for road and transit traffic facing obstacles due to avalanche threats and difficult meteorological conditions in winter.
The Asian Development Bank is one of Georgia's major development partners that has supported the implementation of 2.4 billion USD worth of projects in both public and private sectors.
The meeting at the Administration of the Government of Georgia was attended by First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitri Kumsishvili, Finance Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili, ADB's Country Director at the Resident Mission Elhan Kayalar, and Project Officer Giorgi Kiziria for ADB's resident Mission in Georgia.
