EXECUTIVE GOVERNMENT MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 11, 2017 Print Version

2017-01-11

At today's Government meeting, chaired by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili at the Administration of the Government, the Cabinet discussed 34 issues on the agenda.

The Government approved the establishment of three new plants.

Under the Produce in Georgia state program, a building material factory will open in the village of Aghdgomliantkari, Mtskheta Municipality (1,300,000 GEL in investment).

A hazelnut and bay laurel processing plant will be established in Kveda Chkhorotzku, Chkhorotzku Municipality (130,000 GEL in investments).

Under the program for supporting tea production, a tea processing plant will be created in the village of Nagomari, Ozurgeti Municipality, and the implementing company will receive 25 hectares of land to lease.

The Cabinet of Minister also approved the single-use scheme for loan larization (de-dollarization of national currency) developed by the Georgian Government in cooperation with the National Bank. The program will be launched on January 17, 2017, and span two months.

This scheme will apply to individuals whose annual incomes did not exceed 100,000 GEL in 2015 and whose remaining loans did not exceed 40,000 USD as of January 1, 2015. If, however, their loans were covered between January 1, 2015 and November 28, 2016, the loans remaining as of November 28, 2016 will be subsidized by the Government.

This process will alleviate pressure on national currency, because debtors will no longer have to purchase foreign currency every month to cover their loans. In addition, on the instructions of the National Bank, commercial banks will notify in advance persons, to whom this single-use program applies.

The Government also made a decision about procuring the 12-kilometer Chumateleti-Khevi roadwork, as part of the spatial planning component of the four-point reform agenda. Relevant work will commence in January.
