Government of Georgia – Appearance 2017

Prime Minister’s Comment on Visit to Turkmenistan Print Version

2017-08-30

The official visit has turned out to be quite interesting, including an exhaustive meeting with Turkmenistan's President, during which we discussed a variety of directions. I believe that there is an enormous potential to step up the trade and economic relations between our countries and the issue of tapping into this potential will be discussed at today's meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission. We discussed regional transport projects, such as the creation of a transport corridor involving Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Romania, and Turkmenistan's engagement in the implementation of the Silk Road project. We invited Turkmenistan to engage in our local transit infrastructural projects, which drew great interest in response. Of course, equally attractive are energy transit projects that will require much effort, I believe. We probed into every issue, but talking about specific results is premature at this point. We will work with the region's countries and the EU in this direction to make full use of the transit potential for relations between the two seas, and I believe it is absolutely doable.
