EXECUTIVE GOVERNMENT MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 11, 2016 Print Version

2016-11-11

Today's government meeting at the Administration of the Government was chaired by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili. The Cabinet discussed 21 issues on its agenda.

The Government of Georgia approved the 2016-2017 Action Plan for the Open Governance Partnership (OGP). This document, which is the third in Georgia's successive OGP action plans, puts together 24 commitments with 24 respective agencies responsible for their fulfilment. One of the innovations of this plan involves engagement of municipalities. Importantly, the decision to engage municipalities in the action plan resulted from relevant public consultation. The commitments now cover a larger scope of topics, including environment, healthcare, competitiveness, energy, and consumer rights, also issues under the purview of the Corrections Ministry and the Prosecutor's Office. Today's government meeting discussed the draft decree of the Government of Georgia "On the Approval of the Draft Document on the Grant for L. Sakvarelidze National Center for Disease Control and Public Health." Based on negotiations with the Global Fund, the Program for Ensuring Quality Diagnostics of All Forms of Tuberculosis and Sustainable and Universal Access to Treatment was developed, with 11,925,000 USD allocated for its financing by the Global Fund. The program will be implemented in the period from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019. Timely and quality diagnostics of all forms of tuberculosis and universal access to treatment will cut down the transmission of this disease and fatalities, also preventing the further development of drug-resistant TB forms.

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft decree of the Georgian Government "On Granting the Status of Enterprises in Mountainous Settlements to Certain Entrepreneurial Entities." After the adoption of the draft, 23 entrepreneurial entities, listed in the decree's attachment, will be granted the status of enterprises in mountainous settlements, based on which they will be exempt from taxes in line with timelines and rules defined in the Tax Code of Georgia.
