2016-12-29

2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Christian Church, the 40th anniversary of the Catholicos-Patriarch's enthronization, and the 85th birthday of His Holiness and Beatitude, and special celebrations will be held to honor these events. A special commission will be established to this end, consisting of representatives of the Georgian Government, the Patriarchate, and society.
This statement was made by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili at today's Government meeting.

"In 2017, we celebrate 100 years since the restoration of the autocephaly of the Georgian Church. In addition, next year marks the 40th anniversary of the enthronization and the 85th birthday of our beloved Patriarch, which is why we have decided to establish a special commission, consisting of representatives of the Government, the Patriarchate, and our society, to hold special celebrations in honor of these important dates. Special celebrations mean multi-day events and probably scientific conferences. We are also considering an international peace conference with high-level visiting participants, including politicians. We believe that we should hold special celebrations to honor the Patriarch whose importance has long surpassed the boundaries of Georgia. This is exactly why we are establishing a commission, and we will work hard honorably to celebrate this anniversary. We also believe that the historical role of the Church has always been special in saving and preserving our nation's unique identity, which is why we are considering a conference of said type," the Prime Minister of Georgia stated.
Additional details related to the upcoming events will become known after the establishment of the commission.
