Ministry of Defense is an agency, where sense of unity of the country shall be the strongest and it shall demonstrate the importance of our homeland, our country, - Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili addressed the representatives of General Staff and Ministry of Defense while introducing new Minister Levan Izoria to them.
According to the head of the Government, Levan Izoria is an experienced professional and patriot, who will continue important reforms taking place within the agency with the support of Governmental and Ministry team. He will consolidate professional qualities of every employee to increase defensibility of the country.
"Goal of our country is to ensure its defensibility. It has always been and will remain one of the priorities of our Government. Ongoing and implemented as well as future reforms are vital for the Euro-Atlantic integration of our country. The Military Cooperation Memorandum that has been signed with the USA is the cornerstone of our future military reforms and strengthening of country's defensibility," - Giorgi Kvirikashvili indicated.
Prime Minister thanked the staffers of Ministry and General Staff and indicated that he will spare no effort to ensure that the agency is not politicized.
"We are children of our country and Ministry of Defense shall be maximally distanced from the political antagonism. I consider that such hostility shall generally be terminated. For some reason, certain individuals considered my statements regarding refraining from the hostility as a sign of Bolshevism. However, I think that all of think differently. I would like to see that our country is tranquil and peaceful. Polarization of our country shall end consolidation of our society shall be ensured. This is my primary goal and Ministry of Defense is an agency, where sense of the unity of country shall be the strongest, this spirit shall be present in this institution; Ministry shall be demonstrating the importance of our homeland, our country to everyone. I am convinced that Mr. Izoria will successfully lead this task - I do not doubt this. He will need our support and assistance. I am sure that our Ministry of Defense will undergo some serious reforms, thus increasing defense system of our country and I think nobody doubts this," - Prime Minister stated.
New Minister of Defense Levan Izoria thanked head of the Government for the confidence and his main priority will be the policy of sound mind.
"First of all, it implies ensuring of peace and security and furthermore, this process encompasses deterrence of threats and risks, by sustainable development of our defense capacities and Euro-Atlantic integration.
While discussing the first component, I mean ensuring peace across the country as well as participation in the global security architecture by contributing to NATO's Resolute Support Mission. Naturally, this will be achieved by cooperation with our strategic partner - the USA. As for the second component, when I referred to the deterrence of risks and threats as one of our priorities and I imply that our policy shall not be threatening to anyone - it shall be directed only to the increasing of our defensibility through refinement of our capacities. This was achieved only through close cooperation with NATO member states and the USA throughout recent years," - Levan Izoria stated.
He noted that this policy will continue and defense capacities will increase.
New Minister of Defense expressed readiness to ensure engagement of the experienced professionals in this process. Leval Izoria is convinced that support of each of the soldiers will be a precondition of strength of the Agency.
Prime Minister of Georgia indicated in his conversation with the press that the new Minister of Defense will actively contribute to the implementation of the Action Plans that Georgia has elaborated to integrate in the Euro-Atlantic space and will ensure execution of the Military Cooperation Memorandum with the USA. The latter creates major possibilities.
"It is vitally important to us to ensure that armed forces, military agency is as distanced from the political hostilities as possible - it shall be maximally depoliticized agency. I am convinced that we will manage this. It is crucial to guarantee that sense of unity of our country is demonstrated by our agency," - head of Government noted.
