One more 11 km section of highway was added to the main transit route of the country - Bashi-Dafnari road was opened today and the traffic switched to the new route.
Prime Minister attended the opening ceremony. In his speech Giorgi Kvirikashvili elaborated on the importance of the construction of highway infrastructure and expressed hope that after opening the section of the road, vehicles moving to the East-West direction will be able to travel more comfortably by not having to drive through city of Samtredia.

"This road will enable passengers to avoid entering to more densely populated Samtredia and make their travelling faster, safer and more comfortable. This is one more sub-project under the umbrella of wider project that aims at developing transit highway of Georgia. I would like to thank persons engaged in the construction process, I would like to thank contractor company, Roads Department that professionally managed the project, Minister of Infrastructure and his team, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and European Investment Bank (EIB)," - Giorgi Kvirikashvili indicated.
According to him, well-managed and comfortable road gives more opportunities to everyone. In his words, this means that country and people have better income sources.
"Development of high quality infrastructure and transit roads enabling population to obtain larger benefits from geographic location and transit function of the country is very important. Everyone, including local residents, businessmen, and representatives of partner and neighboring countries will be able to use this road - this will increase the income of population of Georgia," - Prime Minister noted.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili wished happy travel to everyone and noted that the vehicles delivering public services to population will symbolically open the traffic. According to him, through this road, public benefits created by the government will reach greater public faster.

Basha-Dafnari11 km road section covers bypass road of Kutaisi - Samtredia (24 km road) 9 km section and Samtredia-Grigoleti (11.5 km road) 2 km road. Said part of the road starts from Bashi gateway and join existing road near Dafnari. On bypass road of Kutaisi - Samtredia 2-lane concrete coating has been paved , 5 bridges have been built and viaduct was constructed. Construction works was performed by "TODINI CostruzionGenerali SPA" TAKENAKA CIVIL ENGINEERING&CONSTUCTION CO. LTD" through funding provided by JICA. Samtredia-Grigoleti 2 km road construction also includes 4-lane asphalt-concrete road arrangement. Ukrainian company"Road Building ALTCOM" performs the works funded by EIB.

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure NodarJavakhishvili and Ambassador of Japan to Georgia Toshio Kaitani delivered speeches at the opening of the new road section.
