2016-05-20

Prime Minister of Georgia commented on the homicide in Zugdidi and called it a tragedy. Giorgi Kvirikashvili expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and expressed hope that Abkhazians will consider this fact as a provocation against confidence building process.

This is absolutely atrocious fact, greatest tragedy - person was mercilessly murdered on the territory controlled by the Georgian side. This is the greatest tragedy and it is an interference in an ongoing process - we are taking specific steps to ensure restoration of the confidence among Georgians and Abkhazians, Georgians and Ossetians. I express hope that the perpetrator will be strictly punished. We will engage all international partners and will ensure that the murderer will not go unpunished. I would like to express condolences to the family of the deceased. I hope that Abkhazians will regard this instance as a direct provocation against ongoing process. We might not have significant achievement in terms of politics, however people-to-people relations are progressing. I would like this process to continue. Hence, it is vitally important that the criminals are punished," - Prime Minister noted.

Prime Minister also commented on the statements made by the new member of Political Council of "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" David Koghuashvili with regard to the members of the National Movement. Giorgi Kvirikashvili urges members of his party to cherish each of the members of coalition with whom "Georgian Dream" achieved victory.

"David Koghuashvili is my close friend. I cannot say that he has strong feelings towards Saakashvili regime. Unfortunately, in just couple of days, he has broken all records with his unreasonable statements. I believe that some members of coalition, all people with whom we obtained the victory, shall be truly cherished. I cherish all of them I try to avoid statements that will insult them personally or break their hearts.

We are undergoing a renewal process. It is crucially important that we take care of each person. I consider that David's statement was profoundly unthoughtful. As for the positive feelings towards National Movement, I consider, that we have full consensus on this not only throughout our team, but throughout the whole society. The assessment of the previous government by the society is important. David's statement was a bit out of context, however, he has to be more thoughtful while making such statements," - Prime Minister noted.
