Competition Announced to Fill Membership Position on the Georgian National Communications Commission Print Version

The membership term of Vakhtang Abashidze on the Georgian National Communications Commission expires on April 16, 2020. Pursuant to paragraph 5, article 9 of the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting, the Government of Georgia shall issue a decree on holding an open competition one hundred days prior to the expiration of a commission member's term.

Consequently, based on the January 8, 2020 Decree #1 of the Government of Georgia, an open competition was announced on January 8, 2020, to fill the vacant position of a member of the Georgian National Communications Commission. Everyone is entitled to endorse a candidate for the vacant position of a member of the Georgian National Communications Commission within 30 days after the announcement of the open competition.

In line with the requirements of Georgian legislation, a candidate for membership of the Georgian National Communications Commission must enjoy public recognition and trust, and be a holder of a master's degree or its equivalent academic degree in economics, public administration, business administration, law, electronic communications, or journalism, also having at least 10 years of experience, with 3 years of managerial experience.

To register a candidate for membership of the Georgian National Communications Commission, the following documents must be submitted:
A) A written statement of a candidate or endorsement accompanied by a candidate's letter of consent
B) One photograph of a candidate
C) Autobiography
D) A copy of a higher education diploma (in one of the disciplines above)
E) An identification document of a citizen of Georgia
F) A document confirming at least 10 years of experience, with 3 years of managerial experience
G) A written statement confirming that a candidate has familiarized himself/herself with the conflict of interest clause set forth for members of the Georgian National Communications Commission in article 11 of the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting
H) Recommendation letters (if available).

Documents must be submitted through February 6, 2020 at the Administration of the Government of Georgia, at 7 Ingorokva Street, Tbilisi. In 10 days after the document submission deadline, a list of candidates, and competition documents submitted by them, will be posted on the official website of the Government of Georgia, after which the Government of Georgia, in line with legally prescribed qualification requirements, will refer no fewer than three candidates to the President of Georgia. The President of Georgia will refer said candidates for election to the Parliament of Georgia. From the candidates referred by the President of Georgia, the Parliament of Georgia, in line with applicable procedural rules, will elect a new member of the Georgian National Communications Commission.
