Meeting in Prague within the frames of Georgian-Russian dialogue Print Version

Next meeting was conducted within the frames of Georgian-Russian dialogue on March 16, 2016 in Prague. At the beginning of the meeting Zurab Abashidze emphasized gross violations of human rights in Abkhazia and South Ossetia; pointed out violations of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia as well as breach of principles of international law. In particular, recent developments in the village of Jariashen represent serious threat to the security of the country and the region. All of this takes place in front of the international community.

Grigory Karasin expressed position of the Russian side that differs fundamentally from the Georgian side's position.
The sides underlined the particular importance of the Geneva talks, as the main format for discussion of the problems between Russia and Georgia, as well as the security and humanitarian issues.
The conversation also concerned simplified visa regime for the citizens of Georgia offered by Russian Federation starting from the next year. It was noted that appropriate steps shall be taken in order to avoid various problems and difficulties.

Discussions also focused on humanitarian issues. In particular, Russian side's decision regarding release of a number of citizens convicted on espionage charges in the near future was announced.
