On October 17, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, met with the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper.

"Canada is one of the important partners of Georgia in international policy, as well as a great supporter of our country in all international organizations, including NATO.

Today, I have met with the Prime Minister of Canada. We talked about several issues: NATO summit to be held next year, on which we hope that Canada will support us, and now,The Prime Minister of Georgia met with the Speaker of Canada Senate, Noel Kinsella this support is guaranteed. We talked about economic issues as well, specifically, about free trade treaty, which we have not concluded with Canada so far. We plan to start negotiations in this respect in the nearest future. We have talked about an agreement with the Export Bank of Canada, which is the most important financial institution for coming Canadian companies in Georgia.

Within the framework of the visit, the meeting was held between Nika Gilauri and representatives of export and investment agency of Canada Exim Development Canada. At the meeting they talked about investment environment in Georgia. An Agreement has been concluded, according to which export and investment agency of Canada will carry out negotiations with Canadian investors during the next two months. Investments will be made in the fields of tourism, transport, energy, agriculture and public health in Georgia.
