Meeting of the Interagency Commission for the Implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and Children’s Rights Print Version

The 5th meeting of the Interagency Commission for the Implementation of the UNCRC and Children's Rights was held today at the Administration of the Government of Georgia.

The meeting opened with addresses from Co-Chair of the Interagency Commission for the Implementation of the UNCRC and Children's Rights Khatuna Tortladze, Representative of UNICEF in Georgia Ghassan Khalil, and Chair of the Interagency Commission for the Implementation of the UNCRC and Children's Rights Natalia Jaliashvili. Khatuna Tortladze spoke about the submission to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child of the Georgian Government's Report on the Implementation the UNCRC Optional Protocols on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict and on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography.

Representative of UNICEF Ghassan Khalil reaffirmed UNICEF's full support for the work of the Interagency Commission since inception, also the organization's commitment to continuing work on the effective work of the commission. He overviewed the issues on the commission meeting's agenda and thanked the audience for cooperation.

Director Child Protection of UNICEF Milena Harizanova discussed the importance of the Roadmap for the Development of the Strategy and Action Plan for the Preventing and Addressing Violence against Children. UNICEF Consultant Nona Tsikhelashvili introduced the commission to the draft version of said roadmap and touched on Georgia's state of affairs in terms of violence against children.
