The Government of Georgia, through its March 15, 2018 Decree #588, has approved the list of candidates to the GREVIO (Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence) Group of Experts.
The issuance of the decree by the Government of Georgia was preceded by three stages of candidate selection.
The rules for selecting candidates to be nominated for the Group of Experts was approved on February 20 by the Interagency Commission for Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
Next, information about the relevant competition was announced on two different websites. After the completion of application admission from applicants, the compatibility of the candidates with the defined and approved criteria for age, knowledge, and experience was verified. As a result, six applications of 21 were shortlisted.
On March 11, all six candidates passed English language tests. Based on the results, all six candidates qualified for the required foreign language level (B2).
On March 14, the members of the Interagency Commission for Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence held interview with the six candidates, and the list below (from highest to lowest total average points awarded by the commission) was compiled:
1. Vladimer Mkervalishvili
2. Ana Arganashvili
3. Thea Jaliashvili
This list was approved by the March 15, 2018 Decree #588 of the Georgian Government to be submitted to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The competition was facilitated by the Interagency Commission for Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
The Group of Experts for the Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) is a body of independent experts carrying out monitoring of the implementation of the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) by the member states.
Besides Georgia, 16 countries are entitled to endorse candidates (three at most) to the GREVIO Group of Experts.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe will refer the submitted lists of candidates to the Committee of the convention's signatory states for consideration and final decision.
