Sophio Japaridze Holds Consultative Meeting on Gender Equality and Security Print Version

The Georgian Prime Minister's Assistant on Human Rights and Gender Equality held consultative field meetings on gender equality and security in villages and municipalities along the so-called administrative boundary lined in the Samegrelo and Imereti Regions.

Along with gender equality and security, the refugee and conflict-affected populations of Perevi, Khurcha, and Ganmukhuri discussed healthcare and socioeconomic issues, including difficulties related to the registration of agricultural land and revenue sources.

In Zugdidi and Kutaisi, Sophio Japaridze met with local NGOs and self-governments. The parties discussed ways further to improve the work of gender councils and mechanisms for cooperation between civil society, local authorities, and the central government.

According to Sophio Japaridze, the information received during the meetings will prompt effective measures both in the next three years under the new action plan and in terms of stepping up cooperation with relevant agencies.

The consultative meetings aimed to engage the population in the development of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Security Council's Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security and to include and implement the population's needs in said action pan. The work on the action plan is coordinated by the Interagency Commission on Gender Equality Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, led by Sophio Japaridze.
