Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze is on a working visit in Brussels Print Version

July 5-6 of 2017 - Zurab Abashidze, Prime Minister's Special Representative for Relations with Russia is on a working visit in Brussels. Meetings were held with the Secretary-General of European External Action Service (the EEAS) Helga Schmid, Deputy Secretary General Jean-Christophe Belliard and the members of the EU Political and Security Committee. The said committee is comprised of the ambassadors of the member states.

During the meetings the conversation touched upon Georgia-Russia informal dialogue in Prague. Zurab Abashidze updated representatives of the EU on the dynamics of Georgia-Russia relations across the wide range of areas including trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian fields. Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Georgia also indicated that restoration of Georgia-Russia relations in above listed areas did not affect Russia's policies concerning the occupied territories of Georgia. Zurab Abashidze highlighted recent disturbing developments across the occupation line and the processes taking place in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions that pose threat to stability of Georgia and South Caucasus as a whole.

The EU representatives reasserted their support to the policy adopted by Georgia in relation with the Russian Federation and emphasized the importance of continuing the dialogue.

On July 6, Zurab Abashidze will participate in a round table discussion organised by German Marshall Fund.
