The 61st Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women launched today in New York, with "women's economic empowerment in the changing world of work" as its main topic.

Sopo Japaridze, the Prime Minister's Human Rights and Gender Equality Adviser, delivered a speech at the round table discussions facilitated during the session. The meeting discussed the topic of "full and productive employment and decent work for all: how can Sustainable Development Goal 8 be realized for women by 2030?"

The Prime Minister's Adviser emphasized the quality and accessibility of preschool education, which is often a significant precondition of women's full and productive employment.

At the conclusion, Sopo Japaridze delivered an overview of Georgia's steps in the crackdown on violence against women and domestic violence, and stressed a need to increase women's engagement in decision-making.
