Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2009 Year

Meeting of the Government as of December 15, 2009

Meeting of the Government as of December 15, 2009 On December 15, 2009 was held the session of Georgian Government. The agenda included 59 items.
As the PM Nika Gilauri stated before the beginning of the session, 3 persons more died in Georgia from virus H1N1.

"Total four persons died from this virus. I would like to express condolences to their families. In all four cases the cause of death was the delayed visit to a doctor. I would like to apply to all members of the community, all our citizens to apply to a doctor timely. This is not a difficult virus. If detected timely the disease is cured easily.

The stock of Tamiflu and all those medications which are required for struggle against this virus is enough and to spare. Treatment of H1N1 at outpatient and inpatient clinics is free of charge. Safety masks are also free of charge and available at drug-stores. I would like to ask all of you to
visit a doctor timely if you have fever or some other symptoms typical for H1N1 virus", - Nika Gilauri stated.
In connection with this the Prime Minister asked the minister of labor, health and social affairs Alexandre Quitasvhili to add some words. "Unfortunately, because of complications we had three more lethal cases. I would like to explain to the population the necessity of visit to a doctor. The virus is very easily cured in case of timely attention. The disease is complicated in case of delay.

At this moment total 1750 persons are hospitalized. All patients except of those four cases are cured and well and strong.

In November-December up to 45 thousand patents applied with the symptoms of respiratory disease and flu. There were no complications except of those four cases. Unfortunately, this was the result of delayed visit to a doctor.

We have a good stock of Tamiflu at outpatient clinics. We have total 146000 doses Tamiflu and 35000 doses Relensa. This is even more than the recommendations given by the World Health Organization.

These preparations cannot be administered by self-treatment and are provided only through the public outpatient clinics. Therefore, the doctor's prescription is required both for dosing and for taking of these medicines. The self-treatment is not allowed and the medicines cannot be taken for prevention.

During the last two days the number of emergency calls dropped and that is the good indicator. Also, the emergency doctors can prescribe Tamiflu and distribute safety masks", - Alexandre Quitashvili stated.
