Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2006 Year

Meeting of the 22 November 2006

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 22 November 2006. The Agenda consisted of 17 items.

At the commencement of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli welcomed Giorgi Arveladze, the newly appointed Minister of Economic Development of Georgia. He said that within the next 12-16 months, the line of Georgia's defence went on the economy, and therefore, the new Minister was taking over the core direction in the activity of the Government. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the Ministry of Economic development would accomplish its objectives and wished Giorgi Arveladze success in his new capacity.

The Prime Minister of Georgia informed those present at the Meeting that despite the problems that the country faced due to the sanctions imposed by Russia, Georgia maintained B+ crediting rating by Standard and Poor. This is quite an achievement showing that the reforms lunched at the end of 2003 have borne fruit and that the Georgian economy is ready to withstand foreign economic and geopolitical shocks. Now much more effort is needed to make sure that 2007 is just as successful as the past three years.
The Prime Minister of Georgia congratulated the Government members and the entire public on St George' Day and the three year anniversary of the Rose Revolution.
Towards the end of his introductory speech, the Prime Minister of Georgia briefed those present on his material and financial declaration, noting that his property is fully declared, transparent and available to all and, therefore, the allegations of the opposition are ill-founded and unreal.
