Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2008 Year

Meeting of 12 November 2008

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 12 November 2008. The agenda consisted of 31 items.

Before the commencement of the Meeting, Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishvili discussed the budget of the next year 2009.

"You know that when I was approved as the Prime Minister, I asked the Parliament to allow us to present the draft budget 15 days in delay in order for us to have time to change the budget so as to make it the budget of more care, more construction and more employment.

Since then, we've been working hard both inside and outside the Government. We had frequent consultations with the representatives of both executive and legislative powers as well as with economic experts. We had meetings with teachers, doctors, businessmen and refugees. As a result of such work, we have been able to substantially modify the existing draft budget. Yesterday, we unveiled one of the specific and critically important initiatives to lower taxes in an effort to stimulate our economy and create new jobs," said the Prime Minister of Georgia. Then the Prime Minister asked Minister of Finance Nikoloz Gilauri to present other budget initiatives "with which the Government will enter the Parliament and then we'll all make concerted efforts with parliamentary factions, including the parliamentary opposition to get the budget approved," Grigol Mgaloblishvili added.
