Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2008 Year

Meeting of the 3 December 2008

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 3 December 2008. The agenda consisted of 48 items.

Before the commencement of the Meeting, the Prime Minister of Georgia discussed the Brussels meetings. "As you know, the meetings and consultations of the foreign ministers of NATO member states have been in progress for two days already. The decisions that have been made in respect of Georgia are very important. The first thing to emphasize is that they have demonstrated a positive approach to the reforms and progress in Georgia."

In the second place, the irreversibility of the decisions made at the Bucharest Summit has been stressed. This means that the process of Georgia's accession to NATO is taking on an irreversible character.

In the third place, the new approaches to the accession instruments have been formulated. In this respect, Georgia-NATO Commission is acquiring a key role. The Commission will work out annual action plans as a core instrument for Georgia's integration into NATO.

In addition, I'd like to touch upon the process of negotiations with the European Union. There has been a considerable progress in this area as well. The EU Commission approved a mandate for introducing simplified VISA regulations for the Georgian citizens. The negotiations will kick off in a few weeks. After the end of the negotiations, our citizens will be able to move in the EU states much easier," Grigol Mgaloblishvili said.
